need to upgrade? Attachment Questions(running v1.99.24 SP4)

Have two questions about attachments, can we make it so the file we upload keeps its name when users DOWNLOAD it? I realize it may be a security measure to make it harder for unregistered users etc to download the files. Users really prefer having the original name instead of some cryptic file name. Also, can we upload files over 9999KB?(or only Admins?) Do I need to upgrade to get around these issues? I'm running v1.99.24 SP4 thanks

Hi, for question one regarding attachment naming -> yes, file name will be preserved in version 2.x uploading files over 9999KB -> 9999 KB is the maximum we support for attachment upload. Anything bigger than that will cause problems to your server and therefore we do not support it.

I think the file size issue really needs to be fixed, or find a third party application you can modify to use your authentication and bundle with your forum that will handle over 10MB as file attachment. Forum I run is at the University and users need to post their big powerpoint files etc...there are definitely ways to do MUCH better than 10MB without killing the server, others have done it.

in the upcoming version 2.5 (based on .NET totally), you might be able to upload files bigger than 10MB, but you need to be aware of the performance issue this might cause. In our ASP version it is not possible.
