Database changes from 2.5.5?

We are currently using v2.5.5 Unicode and are about to upgrade to 3.5.
 
We would want to run the 3.5 version pararell with our current 2.5.5 forum so we can do all the customizing without disturbing our daily business.
 
Can we use our current 2.5.5 database with the 3.5 forum or do we need to upgrade the database in some way?

3.5 db is indeed different from that of 2.5.5 (must be upgraded).

What you can do is you can duplicate the db and upgrade this duplicate to 3.5 as a test and customize. Once the customization is done and ready for production use, upgrade the existing, uninterrupted 2.5.5 db.
