Here is mine:

http://www.aspplayground.net/forum

I am really curious about the integrations too...but unfortunately I was not able to get in contact with all our customers (don' t know why some of them haven' t even registered their copies?)

For the rest who have registered their copies, they are all using this forum in their intranet!! (Stella, regent, willtze, albert, ranji, danial, edchen..etc etc..)

I wished I could have something to show to our prospects too... Well, this brand new forum has just been out for almost a month, so I guess we will all have to wait for some " show-off' s" to come out

nice forum Mike! Actually we have some message icons that can integrate better with dark background (same icons, just different Matte or canvas)

Let me know if you want the icons and I will send them to you

Hi,

I wish I could give you the URL.. the old one I gave you has expired (I mean the hosting plan), and I am currently looking for something that is cheap and good (SQL of course)

i m testing the forum on my own machine at this moment, so no URL for u guys now.

what are your hosting plans, both Samuel and Mike?

I need something cheap and good....just recently left interland because their new plans are all too expensive...I browsed over to some hosting index and found some good ones (CIhost, Web-x.net, and some others) ...can you give me some good suggestions? I want to have my site up and running as soon as possible too.

I' m in the process of moving my site to www.gearhost.com ... I' ve already got my forums over there.

They have the coolest control panel I have ever seen. There' s a demo of it that you can check out.

May I suggest Readyhosting.com?

Actually the original ASPPlayground.NET SQL beta version is installed and run on Readyhosting.com for more than 6 months, before their network got hacked and before we lost all our database. (If memory serves me right, Mike' s website is on Readyhosting.com too)

Since then we moved to http://www.terrasite.com , and has been up and running for almost a month now. So far their network is very stable and we didn' t experience any problem even when I ran stress tests on it. The only complaint is that their support system sucks. No one cares about your question in 24 hours (in a business world, it is 24 too many)

gearhost.com is probably the best solution at the moment, but if you are really serious about running a commercial site, it would be better for you to choose flarehosting.com. Their site and service are all very good, and you get more components with their business plan (I had a test site with flarehosting.com before). The only problem is it cost twice as much.

be sure to check out the companies we mentioned above. CIhost made some serious mistakes before and therefore I wouldn' t recommand it to you (their support system is OK)...web-x.net is actaully a reseller of CIhost, so they are the same actually. Interland in my opinion, " SUCKS" . If you have been on the net long enough, you should remember there was a " translate =>' f' " bug with IIS that will expose the content of ASP codes to determined hackers. When my site (the other one, not ASPPlayground.net) was on their network, I actually wrote a very simple Perl script to hack my own site. I reported the bug several times but NO ONE responded until I decided to leave.

So be sure to do enough research before giving up your credit card #.

(this message seems a bit too long[:' (])

hi mike,

We actually did not modify the forum much in our intranet...we just put a logo and change the header and footer.

by the way, your forum gives out DNS error?

We used dedicated server (~US2000 a month ) before, so it probably won' t interest you. We are now using a plan that is around 400 a month.

I came to this forum simply looking for info about your forum software (which looks excellent, by the way). However I was very intrigued when you mentioned that you' d lost all your data when your web host got hacked. I was surprised that this wasn' t front-page news in eWeek or something (not that I read that rag much anymore) I did a Google search, there was very little and no articles from any real publications. If you could expand on that story, I' m sure lots of us would like to hear the details.

I also followed your suggestion and liked what I saw at Gearhost. But be warned... another search located some serious issues about this company. Apparently the founded ran a previous hosting co, whose sole connection to the web was actually a DSL line in his apt, and soon went under. Many users who paid in advance feel they were ripped off and haven' t gotten their money back. I don' t know the validity of the claims, I' m just reporting what' s out there. There are some interesting threads here and here. Gearhost has some defenders, they say the guy' s got his act together. Other people think this guy is the scum of the earth. You decide...

Dear Guest,

Our previous host was Readyhosting.com. Their servers got hacked this January -Feburary, and we tried to contact them several times about the downtime we had experienced around that time frame (we didn' t know they were hacked...we thought they just simply lost their web server for other reasons e.g disk failure or something)

We didn' t receive any response from them after several weeks and we couldn' t even connect to our SQL server properly with EM. It was lucky that we did our own backup before they lost their SQL server with DTS so we only lost some of the newer data.

After about a month of no response, I got an e-mail from them saying their servers (several SQL servers + a few web servers) were hacked and they were working hard everyday trying to get things back to normal. If you are a regular visitor to their website, you will know what I am talking about here. They simply left their SQL servers unattended until some angry customers' emails really got on their nerves (this is a pure speculation). The truth is: they didn' t even do back up on a weekly basis. Cheap company + Cheap support

The reason I recommend gearhost is because of their price. If memory serves me right, I only said they can run the forum (I didn' t remember I recommend them, but correct me if I am wrong).

Thank you for your input and I think this post will be beneficial to everyone who is currently looking for afforable SQL hosts.

By the way, if you want to see the e-mail Readyhosting sent me, I can dig that out for you too.

Thanks again.

Caught this thread sorted by most replies.

My Forum link is below in my Signature. Not live yet since I don't have a main page. Just been sorting out the Forum itself. I will have an E-commerce site to sell wedding Supplies as well.

I set up Samuel's forum initially for a Client (I do web design- but decided it's best to build my OWN sites <g>):

Mystery Shopping Forum

SigmaChat integration is on both sites and custom graphics work. I will be working on medits tweaks to display forum aspects outside the Forum next for my main page.

Here's our forum http://www.liverpool.is/Forum/.

It's been translated to icelandic and is currently the most popular soccer forum in Iceland.

We're hosted by an icelandic company. We haven't gotten around to use any of the mods that are available.

I'm still just tinkering with my forum, awaiting the media gallery before I do much more to it. It will be a site where my friends can read my hiking journals and more easily keep up with my backpacking excursions. In addition, I'll be setting up journals for other hiker friends and some general backpacking subjects. I haven't even settled on a title and there's no content, but check it out: www.bayloafer.com

As to web hosts, let me suggest www.crystaltech.com they are the best I've seen in years of trying them all. Their support is similar to Samuels. Meaning the best, of course.

I agree. I have 5 sites at CrystalTech and they are a well oiled machine. You get access to pretty much everything via their control panel.
