You can add the google analytics in ~/ Masterpage.master (located in forum root), before the end body tag, </body>.

how can I get to the forum root ... it gives me the message (invalid selection) when I try to click forum root, then edit

I am not sure what you refer to, but the file is located in the forum's root folder (where default.aspx is located). You can use any text editor to open the master page.

so the forum's root forum is under the forum management tab on the administrator side of ASPplayground ... How do I get from there to the master page?

It is not located in the management interface of the forum (I believe you are searching inside the Admin Control Panel). You need to manually edit the file, using Visual Studio or Notepad --basically any text editor.

the easiest way to edit the file is to edit it locally, and then upload the file to your server via FTP.
