WYSIWYG Editor w/ version 2.5.5 and 2.4.5

Dear all,

I received quite a few requests regarding RichText editing capability in our software, and I originally planned to include it in version 3 of the software, which will be based on ASP.NET 2.0 w/ VB.NET. However, as many have known already, the release date for ASP.NET 2.0 & VS.NET 2005 have slipped again (sounds like 'the end of this year' in the article), which will directly affect the release date of our upcoming version.

Anyway, development of the new version will continue but before we are ready for the big upgrade, I decided to put a WYSIWYG (or Richtext) editor into our current versions of the software.

Here is the plan:

• Add RichText editing capability for users w/ IE 5.5+ and the latest Mozilla/Firefox
  
• The following sections of the textarea will be replaced:
  • New Post and reply
    
  • Post editing
    
  • Calendar Event posting/editing
    
  • Photo comment
    
  • Moderator Ticket posting
    
  • Private Message
  • News Announcement Editing in the control panel
    
  
  
• Messages posted with the Richtext editor will be editable with browsers without Richtext capability, and vice versa
  • essentially what this means is we won't have problems other software do when it comes to message editing w/ different browsers
  
  
• All features of the original PGDCode editing interface are supported.
  
• Messages in the editing window will closely resemble the result on the actual message page.
  
• for IE users, IESpell is integrated into the editor. SpellBound for Firefox is supported (context menu), but it is not available as a button yet. A button for SpellBound will be added once it is ready for web integration.
  
• Both ASP/ASP.NET versions of the software will have this feature.

The ASP version of this feature has been finished and is ready for test. If you are interested in this feature, please come to our demo forum and test the features yourself. The ASP.NET version is available on this support forum, and you can test it in the Testing forum to see how it works.

The WYSIWYG capability will be available for our ASP versions in version 2.4.5 (ANSI and Unicode), and for our ASP.NET versions in version 2.5.5 (ANSI and Unicode).

Here is the upgrade path:

ASP versions:

• version 2.4.2 SP3 -> version 2.4.5 ANSI
  
• version 2.4.3 -> version 2.4.5 Unicode

ASP.NET versions:

• version 2.5 ANSI -> version 2.5.5 ANSI
  
• version 2.5 Unicode -> version 2.5.5 Unicode

This WYSIWYG upgrade for all versions of our software will be free for all license holders of the Advanced Edition.

All 4 versions w/ WYSIWYG editor are released Apr. 24, 2005. Registered users of the Advanced Edition (ver. 2.x) can download them free of charge in the private download forum.
