Are you using the Advanced Edition? If so, your member can click on the "Forgot your password?" link to request password reset. The link is available in the login window. If not, you can change your user's password in the admin control panel, under "user detail" The advanced edition provides an extra security for password storage so that even database admin cannot access member's password.

Samuel, I'm having troubles resetting a user's password. Per your post above, there is a reference to change the user's password under "user detail". I can't seem to find it! Based on the way I've got my forum set up...admin approves all registrations...the Lost My Password link isn't working as advertised. So, the question remains, how do I manually reset someone's password? I've tried impersonating a person and selecting change password, but that requires the old password...thus defeating the purpose! Please help!

you cannot reset a user's password for security reasons. The only way one can reset password is by using the lost password feature in the login window. there must be a problem with your configuration because there are quite a few of my customers who use "admin approval". Did you set up your server messages? Is your e-mail server working? the answer I provided above was for classic edition users (please re-read the message above).

OK, thanks for the quick reply. 1. My e-mail server is working. When a forum user clicks on the "Forgot your password" link, the system does zap the server message for the lost password, as advertised. 2. When the forum user clicks on the link inside the e-mail OR attempts to log on with the temporary password, the user gets a message stating: Registration Result: The e-mail has either been confirmed, or cannot be confirmed. Go to Forum Now? 3. When the user clicks on Go to Forum Now, he or she is logged in as a guest, not as a registered user.

once you click the link to confirm the password reset request, you will get another e-mail containing the new password. You then use that password to login (the login window).

ASP Playground Forum SQL v1.99.24 SP5 I click on "Forgot your password?" & then enter an e-mail address. The e-mail is sent complete with the appropriate server message but no password is provided! Do I have to modify the server message somehow to include a variable that will include the password in the e-mail? Chris Hall

Please see the admin control panel help file for more info . you probably missed the password symbol in your server message.
