URL auto-shorten

I think this is a nice feature, especially for people who have their forums contained within their own design.

Concept: people just post links, which are converted to urls, which can be very, very long. Keeping the actual link intact, the display of it is shortened.

Example:
http://www.aspplayground.net/forum/Title_background_and_category_background_image/m_372538/tm.htm
becomes:
http://www.aspplayground.net/forum...38/tm.htm

While I know how to use the link feature, and it's easy to me, many don't choose to and leave these long links that sometimes create a horizontal-scroll (yuck).

Add it as an option, but not forced, please. Having keywords in the URL may be a very small part of SEO, but it is a part of it. Plus, the URL with a descriptiove title would explain the nature of content that the link provides.

Meaning, there are some positiives to the longer URL's.

I think this a great idea.  Is there anyway we can resurrect this?  Another thing, it would be great if someone can post a linkable URL without having to click on the link icon.  Snitz enables you to do this, and it is a small feature appreciated by my 60,000+ users.
