ASP Playground has been known to have the fastest paging algorithm, and it has been continuously improved over time. Yesterday was a significant day for me. During serious performance tests, I tried to implement a new algorithm I have been thinking about for a long time, which theoretically should have a 500% better performance than the one I used to have.

During a test drive on my own machine, I found the performance has been not only 500% better, but 1000% (10X) better! So I decided to give it a try on my production server (this server), and ran another test to see how it turned out. The result was even better, probably because this database server is located on another machine other than the web server.

I then started to pour a huge amount of messages (200 messages per second) into it to see how it worked. After a while, the server was down because the CPU load and bandwidth has exceeded the daily allowance (this server costs only 99USD a year). I guess I will soon get complaint from the ISP ^ ^.

Anyway, I started again on my own server and this time I tried to use a db located on another machine. The result was incredible. An average of 1100% performance gain was observed over 12 stress test sessions.

The following was the test platform I used, and the result:

 Web Server : IIS 5
 CPU & memory : Intel Celeron 550 O/C to 850, with 384 MB PC133 RAM
 Disk : Ultra ATA 33 30GB IBM 
 DB : SQL 2000 Evaluation Edition
 
 Methods:
 1)On a forum with 100000 records, with 50 concurrent users hitting continuously for 3 and half mins 
  (Worst Case Senario)
 
 2)On a forum with 30000 records, with 30 concurrent users hitting continuously for 3 and half mins
