UI translations and database schema
Tue. Mar 8, '05 6:20 AM
( permalink)
Hi. I would like to know what languages is the UI currently translated to, or how many words a translation have, so I could estimate how much would it cost me to translate to Spanish and Italian. I would also know if it's posible for someone to email me the forum database schema, so I could see if it's possible to import our current forum messages (250.000+). Thanks.

we currently have German, Chinese, Vietnamese, Swedish, Dutch language files. I know a user who is running an Italian langauge community so we can ask him if he will be willing to share the file, but I am not too sure if there is any Spanish community. There are approximately 900 text strings, some of which are very short strings. I will send you a table schema to your email. Let me know if you have other questions. Regards,

I am interested in the Chinese language file. - Is it Big5 / traditional Chinese or GB / Simplified Chinese, or Unicode???
- Does it work with the latest build?
- Can I get this (language file) before I make purchase?
If I purchase version 2 now, do I need to pay when version 3 out? p.s. the font face pull down menu does not include Chinese font name. Can I have multilingual like 繁體中文, 简体中文 here and other locations?

Hi, Thanks for your inquiry. Let me answer your questions - Unicode
- Yes
- You can download the language file once you purchase the software. It is of no use to you without the software
I am still deciding on the pricing for Version 3 and will announce a plan soon. For the font face pull down menu, although I have not tried before, I believe you can just edit a javascript file to include the font face name and it should work. The UI can be translated totally to chinese.

Hello Samuel, Thanks for your promptly reply. - Noted and I can see the Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese in my previous post. That meets our minimum requirement.
- Noted.
- Noted.
From my understanding, the purchase will include my web site's URL and site name. In that case, if I need to go thru the pilot run process, I have to set up a environment with the identical FQDN. Correct me if I was wrong. Target OS: SBS 2k3 premium ed, dual Xeon, 2GB RAM. Any concern on this config? Joshua

Joshua In addition, I found I could not use the search function to search Chinese Characters in this forum, as it says my string is not valid or so. It will be appreciated if you can check this out. Hi Joshua, I will answer both questions here: 1. no, the software license does not tie to a FQDN (we don't use "software activation"), so you don't have to worry about this 2. yes it can, it is just that at this moment the search engine will not search for a string that has two or fewer characters. If you search for 简体中文 or 繁體中文, you will see your message got returned. You can modify the length restriction yourself. by the way, I am not familiar with SBS server.. if it has the same web server as a regular Windows 2k3, it will work.

Hello Samuel, Thanks for your explaination and they work. I tried to put 3 Chinese characters ( 體中文 and 简体中 ) in the search field, the system return 0 documents. Is this a constrain or whatsoever? Finally I find I can set my language to English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and so on. - Can I set it as the site default, say default is Traditional Chinese for every new member?
- Can this pop-up also Multi-Lingual so that it displays Engllish / 繁體中文/简体中文. This is not only for fansy prupose but also let the use know that its current environment support such encoding.
Have a nice weekend. Regards, Joshua

The search engine is based on SQL full-text index, a proprietary technology by Microsoft and it indexes text based on the "meaning" of the search phrase. We don't have a way to influence what gets returned. For the rest of the questions: 1. yes, you can set Chinese as default -> just make it the first langauge file 2. I am not sure what you are referring to as "this pop-up"

Samuel, 原文: Samuel 2. I am not sure what you are referring to as "this pop-up" What I refer to is the pop-up that let me to choose what language I want to use. Moreover, I found the following has not been localized as well: - Reply instead of 回覆
- Quote instead of 引原文
- Edit instead of 編輯
- "RE:" instead of 回覆:
And, can I use the Chinese name as my login name? Joshua

What I refer to is the pop-up that let me to choose what language I want to use. We never have a popup window that lists the languages in the forum. The language selection is in the profile. For the untranslated phrases: these are just untranslated words defined in the language file which you can translate according to your need. And yes, you can use Chinese as the login name.

can I localize the profile as well I am again not sure what you refer to as "the profile". Actually anything built-in to the software can be localized.
