Can you eplain why our guest user counter is so high? I think that it's meaningless. We have hundreds of current guest users on our site even if only 30 or so registered users are signed in. Can't you improve it to give a more realistic guest number?

i think you will find the guest user counter more useful in the next version where online tracking of guests is possible. it already looks good on this forum! this way, you'll see what ip they're coming from and basically differentiate search bots from actual users who haven't logged in.

I find your post interesting, Crisscross. How can you improve on that? That counter is counting the user sessions that are currently on your forum, and I don't know what can be improved about it unless you mean to hide it..

I find your post interesting, Crisscross. How can you improve on that? It makes us look as though we are inflating the number and is a problem for our credibility. From what I understand the counter counts all open windows ie browser sessions, not user sessions. Is that correct?

yes, it is counting browser sessions for guests, and user sessions for members. There is no reliable way to count "REAL" users at all right now. Counting the ip's won't work either.

you can discount the bots by looking at known user agents like 'googlebot' and listing all bot sessions separately
