Subscription emails: Reply-To poster Fri. Feb 14, '03 7:58 PM (permalink)

I recently purchased ASP Playground, and I appreciate the ability to customize. One thing that I' m not seeing is how to set up subscription emails so that a subscriber can respond to a post simply by hitting " Reply." It is not necessary that the response be posted to the forum but only that it be sent to the poster--and this part is necessary. The message board currently in use by the client doesn' t permit this, and this is seen as a major problem by the users. This is why a replacement is being sought.

I' ve been digging around in the code a bit and don' t anticipate difficulty making it do this, but any changes I make will naturally be lost if there' s ever a need to upgrade.

Also, the Body of the email to subscribers can be customized. What about the Subject?

Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion, but the subscription mail is sent thru the admin account of the forum. You can customize it if you want, as most people prefer the way it is now. Not everyone wishes to surrender his e-mail address when he posts on the message board.

Subject is configurable using the language file, language.asp.

Is there a way to change the Subject Text in a Subscription message to be the actual #Subject# vs. having a generic message saying " --login-- just posted a message on our forum!"

I have tried modifying the language.asp file to use the following bit it does not work:

Dim subNotifyMailerSubject:subNotifyMailerSubject = " #subject#"

Thanks for any help.

The advanced edition allows you to edit the subject on the fly, and if you want to change the subject in the classic edition (1.X), make sure you edit it in the ASP file, js/mailroutine.asp. Look for this subroutine SendSubscription
