Some advise on marketing from my own experience. Sat. Sep 25, '10 10:31 AM (permalink)

Please don't take this personally - This suggestion is purely based on the point that I want aspplayground to dominate the market - which means we get better software and all benifit.

This is coming from the point of view of a person who knew nothing about .NET forum software out there, started research from scratch with losts of googling, reading homepages etc - IE I guess I am typical of the people you want to attract.

1/. The sales tool of your product is this forum - once people see the software for themselves it sells itself instantly - its the best there is.

2/. Your homepage reads far to like one of those "hardcore sales pitch pages" - you see them all the time for ebooks and other software with loads of unbelievable claims - I'm always wary when I see these.

3/. As your best sales tool is this forum, then really you want browsers to get to it and see it as easy as possible - the links to it are not easy to find, and it really needs to be much more prominant.

4/. I think a homepage redesign could improve your sales considerably - your software is quality but your homepage doesn't give that impression - look at VB as an example - regardless of the software quality, if you asked a browser to base their perceptions of the quality of their software based purely on iniital impression of homepage, I honestly don't think you'd score highly.

5/. Be open about your competition and help people compare - this page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(ASP) was an initial page I found in my search, that help my find links and check out all the different software - be helpful to your browsers and show them the link, as its basically an independant assesment of all the software out there - you can see you win hands down anyway and people will thank you for and be more impressed by independant comparision than any sales speel you do yourself.

I hope you understand this is feedback is purely just because I want this software to have as much sucess as possible, and these we based on my initial impression when I was trying to find forum software. Your software rocks, but I think you could definately improve with your marketing.

Big Zee,

Definitely and I thank you for taking the time to write such suggestions. I agree with you on the marketing aspect that it should definitely improve, and in fact I have begun the move (it is just that it is not visible yet). Over the next couple of months I will be using a totally different approach to present the software to the developer community.

Again, thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy testing the trial
