First let me say thank you for your work on the forum. I really like this software and the attitude of those creating it.

I am very with the current smileys on the Message Post panel. Most of them are non-standard and not useful.

CURRENT SMILIES

:) Happy
:D Big Smile
8D Tongue glasses
;) Wink
&: Uneasy
:@ Angry
:( Unhappy
:\'( Makes me sick
>: Concentrate?
:o Surprised
X( Sickly
:\- No idea what this is
8\| Glasses rolls eyes
\&o Looks embarrassed (maybe)

There are a few others in the "more smilies" section
Big Kiss, Giggling, Rolls eyes, No idea and tongue out.

Looking at other forums and MSN messenger I think the standard set of 16 on the panel should be something like:

PROPOSED SMILEYS

:) Smile
:D Big Smile
:( Sad
;) Wink
:roll Rolls eyes
:S Confused
:O Shocked
:P Tongue out
:@ Anger
:sick Sick
:$ Embarrassed
:| Disappointed
|) Sleeping
:kiss Kiss
:devil Devil
:Angel Angel

1. Use the 16 smileys in the list above as standard smileys on the Message Post Panel
2. Allow each smiley icon to have a admin-definable code ";)=wink.gif" or ":kiss=kiss.gif" The user can then type :kiss in the post to see that smiley.
3. Add mouseovers to all smiles to see their code. It is sometimes extremely difficult to work out what smileys mean jsut from the picture. I can't work out what two of the current smilies are.
4. Break the link between the smiley icons and the message icons in the subject area by allowing the message icons to be admin-defined. At the moment they are both using the same icon set. I would like to use a different set for both.
5. Allow an admin-defined number of smileys in the MessagePost box. Currently there are 16, however, we may want a few more, or a few less, especially as we intend to use icons that are a little bigger.
6. Allow independent resizing of the "more smileys" pop-up. Currently it is the same pop-up as the Text Colors pop-up, which looks bad when resized.
7. BTW, can you put popular colors at the TOP of the text color pop-up. It's a pain to have to scroll down to get to red all the time. It would be even better if you could put the top colors in the actual Message Post box (there's plenty of room on the RHS) with a link to a "more colors" popup just the same as "more smileys" on the LHS.

Option:
8. Expand the interface to allow easy changing of other buttons on the system. There aren't so many. New post, Poll, Topic. The flashing active topics buttons and so on. If button sets can be saved then this can work will with the upcoming skins feature. Trying to manage these icons on the server is very time-consuming.

Thank you for listening. If these chages go in I will be very and hopefully I will find out what and [sm=s26.gif] mean.

I agree and have mentioned the smiley's before. We can change the default one's by renaming other smiley's to replace the ones displayed by default, but it would be cool if whoever worked on the default smileys made some new ones.

There are too many negative smileys and not enough happy/cool smiley's like a Thumbs Up smiley.

I like the other observations as well.

Good feature. Does this mean users can upload also?

I our case we don't really want the users to upload their own smileys from the net. We want them to select from the set we have created for them. It keeps our forum looking nicer and stops abusive smileys (you know what I mean).

So we would just like it so that users can choose favorite smileys from a list.

No it doesn't allow to users upload their smiles. But in another way everyone could use their smile if they want using [ image][/ image] tags linking to their uploaded personal smile site.

Favorite smiles is a very good feature that helps user to impress his self better. Also increases comeback frequency. I think it must have in at least 3.0 version of APG.

I hope Samuel won't anger to me because of lot work needed feature suggestions
