In the forum management interface for a forum, you will see two buttons: manage private users and manage custom group permissions.
What's the relationship between the 2 as you can also add a group in the private user management interface? First, a
private forum is a forum that is hidden to non private users. In other words, if you mark a forum as "private", you will need to add users/groups to the private user management interface to allow access. Anyone who is not added specifically will not see the private forum.
Private user page: allows you to add users/groups to a private forum in order to access a private forum. Users/Groups are given the permission you set in the
forum management interface.
Custom Group permission page: allows you to give a user group(s) special permissions for a forum. When the forum is a private forum, our system works this way:
If you have a group
A in theprivate user interface for a forum, you can give group
A members a differentpermissions set by also adding group A to the custom group permission page. This way, group
Amembers will have different permissions from the one you set in the forummanagement interface.
In a private forum, adding a group to the custom grouppermission page automatically adds the group as a private user group. In other words, one must be a private user or a member of a privateuser group in order to access a private forum. Custom group permission alone does not grant any permission to any group in a private forum.
So, these two features can work both independently and together. A normal forum can have custom group permission defined, and a private forum can work without any custom group permissions.
