Question regarding minimum server requirements Tue. Dec 14, '10 9:10 AM (permalink)

Hello, I am researching User forum software for my company. I would like to try out a trial version of ASPPG and play with it a little bit on my local machine here which is Windows 7.       I have Dot Net 4.0, IIS, SQL Server 2008 installed already.

Is this possible? Pls. let me know about it.

Thanks!!

    Thanks for your inquiry first.

And yes, it will work. If you are using the express version (free version) of the SQL server, then you will need to make sure you get the Express with Advanced Services edition because it has the Full-Text search engine that the software needs.

    Thanks, that helps a lot!

One other question - do I need "Administrator Access" to the server to install the forum software? We are moving to a virtual dedicated server but might not have admin access if we sign up for assistance for security etc with the hosting company. Pls. let me know about it. Thanks again!

no you don't. All you need is FTP access to upload the software files. However, you will need to set folder permission for one sub folder, ~/upfiles, with the control panel your virtual dedicated host provides, since you may not be able to access Windows Explorer in such environment based on the info you provided.
