Post number for each post

I suggest that each post in a thread should be numbered and it should be an anchored link to itself. A user can than easiily refer to a post by its number in the thread. They can also copy the link (the number is a hyperlink) for the post and send it out or use it to refer to a specific post in another post/thread so a user can go directly to it.

We modified our forum code to include this as referring to specific posts from other posts is indispensible. You should think about putting it in your core code base perhaps.

For my benefit, could you expand on what you mean?
The standard code uses bookmarks, do you mean something along those lines?

If you go to our forums and look at the posts they all have post numbers on them.

post number is a way to refer to a post in a thread. For example, your post is the 7th post in the thread, and mine is the 8th. It is not a unique identifier or message ID.
