thanks for the comment. We do not plan in the near future to add more fields to the registration fields but anyway you get the full source code with the license. You can always modify the source to match your needs. _____________________________ Samuel Chou Forum Administrator ASPPlayground.NET Developer

We will have announcement on the feature soon. Don' t worry, it requires nothing additional to the forum. It runs natively without a problem.

Samuel, The Poll is really good. I tested it in the demo version. However, you' ll be receiving a forward from Bruce Lee about a list of features I' d like to see in a poll system that I wrongfully posted in the Q&A forum. Maybe you' ll find them interesting. Thank you!

Is work continuing twoard providing a newsletter option? I can add it myself, but it makes upgrades a bit more difficult to implement. Should I wait for this (coming soon) or pursue writing in my own support (if it will be a while). Thanks!

In the current state of development we have switched focus to something else and have put a hold on the newsletter option. Thank you

in terms of adding more user registration fields, i think that would be an excellent feature. in particular, if you have a field for the user' s birthday, you can quickly identify what users are COPPA users (ie. children) and which ones aren' t. naturally, anyone can just lie about their age if they really want to register, but it would nevertheless be a useful feature. if you take it one step further and implement a calendar that will not only allow members to post events, but can also tell you who has a birthday and on what date (should they choose to publicize their birthday), that would be really neat. i think this one-two combo would be a huge step for aspplayground. what do you guys think? one last question--i' m having difficulty finding this on the forum--what is the estimated date for release of the .NET version of this forum?

I will definitely include " registration fields" and " calendar" for our 2.0 release. I am still working on the 1.99 release at the moment. As for COPPA compliance, I will make it available in 2.0 as well (but I will simply add a birthday check in the registration form for 1.99) Thanks for your suggestion

How about a major feature I see missing (perhaps I' m missing it?). The ability to " Email link to a friend" from the top of a topic? You know, pop up a window allowing you to enter To/From addresses and a message, then send the email including a link to the current post including message topic? Mike N

you missed the feature . You can click on to forward a post to a friend. Our software let you forward an individual post with its message body (not just a thread with a link only) to anyone. Thanks

Ah... so you can One more question for you... since you guys seem to be taking advantage of SQL for many things, I' m assuming this includes managing " sessions" ? If so, does this mean that the forum is already capable of running across multiple servers (clustering also), without users losing their session? Mike N

We still use session variable. We don' t have plan to support web farm. Our software is designed to support small->large web sites (on either virtual servers or Dedicated Servers, but not multiple servers). It is a cost-effective solution for everyone using ASP and SQL 2000.

Not to be critical or anything... but wouldn' t this be an easy change for you? Use SQL to hold session data, assign a client cookie to manage the correlation between the two, and you are good across servers. Seems the next, and fairly simple, evolution of what you are offering. Especially with your " better then usual" SQL usage/support. Mike N

Yes, web farm support will be added in our 2.X version of the software based on ASP.NET. We will use ASP.NET' s session management and it is compatible with web farm. I meant we didn' t have plan to support Web Farm in our ASP version.
