Multiple sites with one database?
Wed. May 30, '07 10:32 AM
( permalink)
Good day. I want to run several domains with one database, is this possible with this software? Example: www.domain1.com and www.domain2.de Both have different content, so they need different (automaticaly generated) navigations and different layouts. Still they should run on one database. More important is that I want to have the same forum under www.domain1.com/forum and www.domain2.de/forum. Of course it should look entierly different, but it should have the same user database. Is this possible? Thank you, Smoerble

Hi, We don't support this configuration out of the box, so you will need to customize it to make it work. Layout and Navigation are cached in the file system (not pulled from the db everytime a page is requested), so it is easy. We have users doing the same with a bit of code tweak, and you will need 2 licenses for this setup.

Thanks for the quick answer. Can you point me please to an example URL where one of your client does something like I want, so I can assure I explained correctly, what I need? Also you mention, I need two licences. I assume, this means, one licence for each domain/site? If so, is there any other bigger license I could use, as I am talking about a bunch of domains?

Dear Samuel, We are looking for something identical. We would like three different domains to use the same forum: domain.se, domain.dk, domain.no. The sites and forums should be identical. But all site text and the group names should be written in the local language. Is this possible? As far as I can see the site text can easily be translated by installing the appropiate language. But can the group names also be translated? Best regards, Jeppe Andersen

the group names (forum names) are stored in the DB as opposed to file, so it is not possible to translate on the fly using language files.

Dear Samuel, Will it be possible to create and install a mod that makes this 'on the fly' translation of the forum names throughout multiple domains possible? A mod that won't conflict with future updates of your software. We will of course be more than happy to pay you for this work within reasonable limits since it is an important feature to us. Apparantly other customers would also appreciate the multi domain installation feature. Best regards, Jeppe Andersen

Hi, I am sorry but at the moment I am hands full with projects that I won't be able to code the mod for you. You are welcome to create a mod for this, however. Sorry again for the inconvenience this may cause you.

I am sorry again, but I don't work with programmers directly. You can however contact Jramers (the owner of the FreeGolfInfo) or fritzpw (owner of Crosswalk.com) as they both did similar customization (displaying the same forum on multiple domains) for reference.

Hello, If you purchase additional licenses for more forum sites does the price come down as your total purchases go up or do you have to buy in batches? Thanks.

Hi Jerome, Thanks for your message first. To receive volume discount, you will have buy in batches (at once). You can see the details for the discount after selecting the products to buy and click on the "volume discount prices" link.
