I' d like the moderator to receive email messages when his forum receives a post. Also, I' d like the person who posts a message to receive an email message when a reply to the post is entered into the forum. Are these features available? Daniel

Yes, the feature is available. You just need to enable subscription in the admin panel for your forums. Users can then subscribe to the forum/thread and so do moderators.
