Current User Group(s) in Moderator / Private User Setup Do you have to put the groups that you want moderatored in this group? Why do you need to put a whole group in the User Groups Moderator Setup?

No, when you put a user group in the "Moderator" or the "Private User" setup of a forum (both are containers for a forum), members in the user group will behave like either moderator or private user of that particular forum. If you'd like to moderate messages posted by a particular user group, you will need to enable group based permission and check the box "Moderation Required for each post: " for that particular user group.

You cannot apply to join a forum, but to join a user group. You can give a user group "private user" privilege to your private forum, and allow your member to apply to the user group.

under forum configuration, you click on the button "Private User Setup" located above where you specify the forum name. The button will only appear if the forum is set as a private forum by checking the "Private Forum?" checkbox.
