Max Users Guest/Registered Toggle

Please make a toggle that changes the "Most users ever online was 3891 at 7/7/2004 5:47:08 PM" to show either guests or registered users.

We are experienceing a credibility issue (users dont belive the number) and are having a difficult time explaining to our users why the guest user number is so high (yes, it's browser sessions <sigh>) compared with the registered users number. We would like to simply show registered users instead.

your guest count is so high probably because a search engine spider is blazing through your site. VB forums have a breakout of registered users, guests and robot/spiders. this way the guests (which do matter) can be accounted for but the spiders as they blaze through your site creating new sessions will not be.

If we disallow spiders then we wont get our pages indexed in search engines, no?

You have a lot of current users, but the guests seems not much more. Are you using 2.4?

we are on 2.1 without modifications in the software. we will be upgrading to 2.4 shortly.

don't disable spidering. you want to be in the engines.

Samuel - if you look for the user agents that are known (i.e. googlebot) you can parse them out as spiders as vb does rather than show them as guests

We are also having credibility issue or in other words losing reputation with these high guest listing. I saw in a beta forum fix for high listing is a very easy way so I will share in here.

only one guest can be logged on from any given IP at any given time. This should drastically limit the bot effect

How about adding this to next minor version for us not to lose reputation.
