Making a " global.asa" file with FrontPage

Looking over the installation instructions on-line it says " In order to set up this forum, you will need to enable " Application" (global.asa) for your forum." Instead of emailing the ISP, I believe this can also be accomplished using FrontPage from the menu dropdown for " Tools" / " Web Settings" / " Database" / " Add" / then click the " Radio Button" for " Network connection to database server" then click the " Browse" button. You can select " SQL Server" / " Server Name" / and " Database Name" in that section. Is this an option or would it be better (easier?) to let the ISP make the " global.asa" file for us? I haven' t purchased the software yet. I' m just trying to see what steps are involved in the installation and see if I understand them. Thanks for your time! -John-

*** NOTE: After version 1.7 (released Jul 14, 2002), you don' t need to install global.asa. If you want to track online users without global.asa, just enable " Online User Tracking" in the Admin Panel. This step is completely optional. You can even remove global.asa from your forum directory. In other words, you don' t need to use global.asa or enable web application at all. Just don' t worry about it.

Thanks Samuel! I did see that note but thought using " Online User Tracking" may impact forum performance. This is all pretty new to me. Pardon my lack of experience. I' m learning a lot just from reading over the posts and the user/installation manuals! -John-

" Online User Tracking" may impact forum performance. Not really. Unless you have more than 1000 users actively using the forum, it will not cause any performance problem. Our online user tracking mechanism has been written with performance in mind. No one has ever experienced any problem turning on this feature.
