Gallery and Calendar - 09/27/2006 03:01:38 PM
Samuel,

In the next version, I would like to see both Calendars and Galleries treated as just another object (Category/Forum/SubForum/Topic, etc) that can be added anywhere as well as nested rather than hanging off to the side almost as an afterthought...

Thanks, Roy

Greate idea, this is just I want to say,
but I only need one gallery, I think calendar is unnecessary.

Configure forum on MAC - 04/09/2007 01:33:42 PM
I am using a MAC to configure the FORUM. The guide reads,
Internet Service Manager is an application which allows you to manage / configure IIS 5.0 on your own machine. This is the default application for managing website in Windows 2000 (There is another optional application installed with IIS in Windows 2000 called "Personal Web Manager", which I won't cover in this guide.). OK, let's get started. Make sure you know where your Internet Service Manager shortcut is located. I put it on my desktop. See figure 4 -> to see how the icon look like on desktop. Locate the folder "forum" in your website first, and then right click on it and select properties. See figure 4a ->.

Is there a way to do this on a MAC?

Thanks,
Chris

unfortunately no, as the software must be installed on a Windows based server.

Well, that went a little off topic...
So, where is this at with 3.0?
I went to the test forum and tried adding a couple of Galleries hoping I would be able to put them where I want, but alas, this does not seem to be the case - it seems that they can only be nested.
Ist it at least possible to have a different Gallery per Forum or Category?
Same question for Calendars.

Thanks, Roy

Gallery and Calendar are treated independent from the Forum / Category, so this is not possible in V3 either.

Wow. I'm really at a loss to understand why this is not considered to be a key necessity in these programs.
If your are going to have a Forum/Category/Topic hierarchy, why would it be presumed that a single Calendar & Gallery is adequate to service all???

I am sorry, but I don't think I understand your question. It is not a "Single" Calendar or "Single" Gallery, but you can create multiple galleries / calendars in the admin control panel. They are just not organized together with the forum / categories / messages.

In fact, if you go to the test gallery page, you will see 2 root level galleries (I just created test 2).

I thought you were asking if calendars/galleries could be created as messages...

Re: RE: Configure forum on MAC - 07/24/2008 06:50:14 AM
Maybe first we need a common ground of understanding. Here is how I see things top to bottom:

Forums    - Pet Forum, Car forum, etc
Category    -    Dog, cat, pig, etc
Topic        -    Groming, Feeding, etc
Messages    -    How do I keep Fluffy from making hairballs, etc

Sometimes the terminology is different from vendor to vendor. Sometimes this is done with sub-levels, Perhaps this is not how ASPPlayground is organized?

If this is easier with a phone call, you can pm me with a number or I can give you mine.

Thanks, Roy

I may have the first two reversed - Category and Forum. Maybe Category is the top level?

OK, I went over this in more detail. It appears that the Calendar and Gallery are accessed from the main menu - so one per board. Multiple calendars/galleries can indeed be added. I can make this work I suppose, but it is not what I'm hoping for. Ideally, I would be able to insert either anywhere I could add a forum or sub-forum. As an alternative, having them as a menu item for each forum rather than from the main menu would be OK also.

Is it possible to disable the Announcements section?

Thanks again, Roy

Hi Roy,

Yes, Category is the top level (forum containers), and then forums -> messages

Announcement section -> yes, just don't add any announcements and it will disappear.
