Free upgrade to Version 4 on or after May 16th

From now on (May 16th, 2011 onward), users who purchase version 3 will receive version 4 free of charge when it is released. We expect to release version 4 in Q2 2012.

I have the 2.4.5 unicode version - is it possible to upgrade? would there be a cost?
also I would like to make the forums I run much simpler ie without all the emoticons and a cleaner look - more like some of the bulletin boards that are around - someone else loaded the system onto our website for me and I can manage users but i find the background configuration difficult to understand - is there an easy way I can change the look? Thanks

Hope everything has been well for you. For upgrading to V4 from V2.4.5, you will need to upgrade to V3 first, and then V4 in the future.. V2.4.5 is directly upgradable to V3.

With the theme and template system in place, we can change the look entirely. Take a look at our Mobile template (a drop down with theme selection at the top of the page) which is very simple and clean.

Any ETA for Version 4 Samuel?
 
I plan to install V3.9 Trial on my PC and use it for a couple of weeks. Then, I'll buy the package :)
 
However, do you think it is wiser to wait for V4? Will there be a cost to upgrade to V4?

V4 is going to be free for you if you purchase now and it is planned for Q1 release. The upgrade process is going to be very smooth with the setup program: 1) executing a few SQL scripts 2) uploading new files to replace existing.

Will custom themes be retained, or will they have to be recreated to match any new styling you are putting in?

Theme will require a bit of rework because in V4 we will make better use of CSS, but it is not going to be hard because we still retain the basic structure in terms of themeing and templating. If you plan to change the table wrapper as described in this article, then it will only take a little bit of work to get back to the same feel.
