Is it possible to apply filters to PMs to detect PM spam based on a keyword list?

not really because in version 2.3 + you can specify how many receipients is allowed per PM, and as a result PM spam is not likely to cause problem. Also, users have the ability to block certain users and this is a helpful spam fighting tool as well.

We had a situation where another forum used the PM system to recruit new members to their forum. For example, if one of your competitors came to your board and sent PMs to all the users with his URL it could be a big problem. Cutting down the number of simultaneous PMs helps but a keyword filter would be better. I appreciate your advice, and the experience of other forum operators on this issue.
