OK we may not have the smartest members, but Its still annoying to get 6-10 emails a day that people cant log in after they register.
IMO, 4 changes need to be made..

1)when email validation is required, it should state after they register in a more clear manner that they MUST validate their email before they will be able to log in.
2)the link in the email must be clickable in all (or most) newsreaders, if it is as long as it currently is it gets wrapped over 2 lines and must be copied in manually, this doesnt work for people who are not internet savvy....like our forum members.
3)The user should have to enter his email twice before being able to register.
4)If a user tries to login and his email hasnt yet been validated, rather than get a " Invalid login" message they should get a message that tells them they need to validate their email and how to do so, with an option to resend the email validation in case they have already erased it.

Other forums I have subscribed to have great systems for overcoming this problem....some take you to a page where you have to enter the confirmation code from your email...then once you enter the code it takes you back to the forums.....other forums send a random password in the email and you can change it later on.....either way is better than this current system...

this feature is one of the reasons we bought these forums and i cannot believe how many people cant figgure out this system, but with a few changes it could work GREAT!

Thanks for a great forum software.

Please refer to our tutorial on Server Messages, as you have missed a significant part of the e-mail validation feature in our forum.

This part in completely configurable. Please look at this variable in the language.asp file: regEmailResponse

I believe that once you make the modifications as I say above, your members won' t get confused at all.

Thank you for your response, I failed to see the #confirmlinkalt# configuration when I initially set this up, Ive added this and hopefully it will help, thank you.

When someone attemts to log in but their email has yet to be validated, how can we change the invalid login message to something more appropriate? Can that be done in the language.asp file as well?

Nope, not this one as the stored procedure only indicates success or failure here.
