Display name versus login

I think it would be nice to give members the option of adding a display name to their profile, which would be used instead of the login name when posts are displayed. I think this would add another level of security since the login name would not be revealed. More importantly, I think it would enable members to use a friendlier display name. This would be similar to the feature in User Groups setup: Group Name versus Group Title.

won't you get more problems that way like.. That name is allready in use? For security reasons there can also be a count for failed log ins, so that an account can be blocked and a notification can be send to the admin and maybe the password gets reset automatically and send to the member's e-mail address.

I would also love to see this feature. It would be great if our users could login using their email address, for example, but when they post, their "First Name" "Last Name" as listed in their profiles would display. Thanks!

ErEf, I don't think the "already in use" issue has to be a problem. Let's say you had three ErEfs! The system could display ErEf (#), ErEf (#2), and ErEf (#3), where the # is the memid. The link tied to the name (to the profile) would still use the memid. I mean, the whole world has learned to cope with people with same names without forcing them to change their names, right?
