Database size and german sql server Sat. Jul 8, '06 10:38 AM (permalink)

Dear sir or madam,

I'm interested in using your forum software. I'm currently rewriting my website (wich currently uses vBulletin 3) to use asp.net. Some questions about it:
  • Do I also get the full source code of the asp.net version?
  • May I use some parts of the forum software in other parts of my website? For example, I would like to use the WYSIWYG editor and the post parsing at some other parts where community members can post messages (bug tracker for example) so they would only have to learn that one.
  • I read here that there's a problem with german sql servers. The solution stated there is to create a new database or login using the Enterprise Manager. The problem now is that I use a webhost which doesn't allow me to do either of the two (the database is created automatically as is the (only) login. Of course I also cannot connect to it using Enterprise Manager.
Can I instead cange my user account using some sql statement? How can I test the current configuration?
  • My current forum is quite small (23 users, 18 threads, 62 posts) and won't grow very fast. How big would the database be? Your demo forum (with even less posts) shows about 70 MB of database usage. Is that realistic? (I do only have 100 MB of database space with my webhost)
  • There's no vBulletin importer, right? (Not hat this could stop me :P)

Thanks in advance,
GameCrash

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in our software. Let me answer your questions one-by-one:
  1. yes
  2. unfortunately, no. everything is designed to work together, and it is not easy to separate each function.
  3. if you can't do it using enterprise manager, you won't be able to do it via sql statement either because of insufficient permission. there is one thing you can do: ask your host to do it for you. To test it, upi can run a simple Sql statement and see if it errors like: SELECT Cast('2005-12-31 00:10:20' as datetime)
  4. no, the demo forum also runs other stuff so it is no realistic. My main forum with 20000 posts takes up about 50 MB. Yours will take up only around 10 MB
  5. I am sorry, but no there isn't.
